Grey, SMK Puchong Batu 14, Selangor

Summary of Project:

Grey is a podcast based on students’ responses about their struggles academically during the pandemic, and offers some advice and motivational talk to help them feel connected and to help them achieve their goals again.

Problem Statement:

We want to create this podcast because we observed that students’ mental health has been declining during the lockdown and they were starting to fail in their studies. We wanted to help them feel motivated and encouraged to strive for their goals with our podcast. We also want to empower and inspire them so they were able to grow significantly in their learning progress.

Participants Demographics:

There were 240 people in total who listened to our podcasts. 40 people were listeners from Spotify & SoundCloud, while 200 people were students from our school who listened to our podcasts as it was broadcasted school-wide from the school's speaker.

Project Impact & Impact Measurement Method:

We originally planned to measure our impact data based on the exam results of our listeners. Unfortunately, we were not able to do so as our final exams were postponed to next month (January 2023). To work around this problem, we launched a poll on our Instagram account, and around 12% of students said that they followed our advice and our podcasts motivated them to study.

Changes Observed In Participants (Improvements/Progress):

One of our listeners told us that they followed our advice about procrastination and they found it very helpful (ss in google drive).

We did not know that we needed to pay to change our podcast audio to RSS feed (which is like mp3 but for the podcast.

You cannot post it in Spotify without an RSS feed). We weren’t able to upload all 8 ep. We had managed to write the script until ep 4 but didn’t have time to record and edit.

Challenges/Setbacks Faced:

When we were going to upload the second episode of our podcasts, we found out that we had to to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee if we wanted to upload more than one episode on Spotify. To overcome this challenge, we opted to upload our podcasts to SoundCloud instead.
