Learning Buddy, SMK Convent Batu Pahat, Penang

Summary of Project:

Learning Buddy is a platform for students to access learning materials. It enables students to catch up with the learning loss experienced during MCO. It contains games, prizes, and other exciting activities. It is available at any time when students are free.

Problem Statement:

Classes were conducted via online learning during MCO. Online learning lacks face-to-face human interaction. It is easier for students to get distracted during online classes. Students lose their passion to learn and they feel like giving up. Students found it difficult to catch up with their syllabus = learning loss. So, we decided to create this interesting and interactive learning recovery project to help students catch up with the learning loss they experienced during MCO.

Participants Demographics:

There are 76 participants who visit our Learning Buddy. There all are secondary school students and included 74 girls and 2 boys. Participants’ level of engagement is 77%, and they are quite active in our Learning Buddy. They engage in guestbook, mandatory quiz, and the feedback form. After they visited our Learning Buddy, they filled out the GuestBook. The GuestBook already has received 215 visits now. To prove if they read through all the Learning Buddy, we check out the mandatory quiz and get the result. All of them get excellent results in the quiz by achieving 80% correct answers.

Project Impact & Impact Measurement Method:

We use a mandatory Google Forms quiz to check if they are doing well after visiting our Learning Buddy. On our website, have a GuestBook through which we can see if the number of visitors are reaching our expected target. We also have a feedback form that allows us to see if students are satisfied with our website.

Our target is to achieve 80% increase in the average student performance growth for the subject of Reka Bentuk dan Teknologi (RBT).

Before our participants started using Learning Buddy, there was only 1 person (2%) who hit our target. After using Learning Buddy, there are 50 people (96.15%) who hit our target. It shows that students really improved a lot after using Learning Buddy. In fact, the average student performance growth in the area of RBT is 94.15%, which is over our expectations!

Changes Observed In Participants (Improvements/Progress):

There are 41/47 (87.2%) students satisfied with our Learning Buddy and 43/47 (91.5%) students who think that Learning Buddy resources are useful to them. 42/47 (89.4%) students are happy while using our Learning Buddy. Also, all of them (100%) think that Learning Buddy is interactive and interesting. Finally, 47/47 (100%) students said that they have mastered "elemen reka bentuk" and "prinsip reka bentuk".

To prove this is true, 52 students went through a mandatory RBT quiz via Google Form. We were really excited to see the results!

100% correct answers: 28 people

95 % correct answers: 9 people

90% correct answers: 11 people

Challenges/Setbacks Faced:

At the beginning, not a lot of students visited our Learning Buddy website, which made it difficult to achieve our target. So, we decided to promote Learning Buddy via Instagram to recruit more participants. Besides that, we also promoted Learning Buddy through our school channel and class group so our schoolmates can support our project. We also added a competition element, which is Top Referrers, where the person who recommended the most number of users can win Shopee vouchers. YEAH! Through our efforts, finally, the number of participants has hit our target!
