Interactive Sejarah Storybook, SMK Convent Batu Pahat, Johor

Summary of Project:

Our storybook has many pictures, dialogues, quizzes, short notes and other elements. We have found that these elements attract many students to read our storybook. We kept our points brief compared to the official Sejarah textbook to ensure that students would not feel bored while studying the subject.

Problem Statement:

We noticed that our friends have difficulties paying attention in class after learning loss. The extended school closures also made it hard for them to catch up with their studies, and as a result, their grades regressed. For our learning recovery project, we want to make students more interested in Sejarah and help them realize that Sejarah is actually an easier subject to master than they think. Moreover, we also want to help them understand the Sejarah topics that they were not able catch up on during online classes.

Participants Demographics:

There were 80 participants who used our book. They were all 14 years old. We put them into five groups and each group went over one chapter. After studying our interactive storybook, they tried to answer all of the questions at the end of the chapter. 70 participants were active learners while 10 were passive learners, and most of them found our book to be beneficial.

Project Impact & Impact Measurement Method:

We use a Google form to measure our impact. Before they used the book, our participants go through a post-programme test, where they have to answer a few questions so we can measure their level of understanding. After they have used the book, we gave them similar questions to answer and the results show that they did improve in understanding the contents of the Sejarah chapter assigned to them.

Changes Observed In Participants (Improvements/Progress):

According to our previous plan, we actually wanted to produce many books but due to time constraint, we decided to produce only one book first. We also opted to use an e-book format because it is easier to design and the cost price is lower compared to printed copies.

Challenges/Setbacks Faced:

We encountered some challenges during a discussion about how to create our storyline as each of us has a different idea and it was difficult to reach a consensus. In the end, we picked out certain elements from all of our suggestions and combined it into the best idea.
