YEC 2021 Highlight Video. In 2022, we invite you to pitch and design your own learning recovery project in your community.

Learning Recovery Driven by Student Projects

Malaysian schools saw 42 weeks of closures owing to the pandemic — among the longest in the world (UNESCO Global Monitoring of School Closure).  This means that students’ effective learning have been interrupted for over half a year.

This year, YEC invites you and your peers to be part of the learning recovery journey: What are some creative and innovative ways to accelerate learning recovery in your school and community?

Craft, pitch, and pilot your very own learning recovery project while being guided by professional mentors and experienced facilitators to your project. You and your team will also stand a chance to win bursaries worth up to RM48,000 from Sunway College!

Accelerating Learning Recovery

“Learning Loss” refers to any loss of knowledge, progress and/or momentum in learning due to extended school closures.

Here are some examples of how Interrupted Learning may affect students (uniquely and differently!):

(i) demotivation as they fall further behind in classes;

(ii) students who disengaged with learning during the pandemic (i.e. dropouts);

(iii) worried about catching up with the syllabus and facing exams… and more!

That’s not to say that students stopped learning and developing! Students’ learning experiences would need to recover from the losses of access to their school community, to consistency and routine, to stable learning environments from the pandemic.

Be part of the learning recovery journey - Student Projects

This year, we’re inviting students passionate about education and leadership to design your own learning recovery project which:

2. Pitch!

Your idea now has to be pitched. A good idea pitch is one that sells an interesting, memorable, and actionable idea. Your team will receive grants worth RM500 if your project has been pitched successfully.

3. Pilot!

Once you’ve successfully pitched, it’s time to pilot the project. You will be provided around a month and a half to execute your project, record and submit data to illustrate its impact. Who knows, your project might be brought to bigger heights after the showcase!
